Major Cause of Depression and
Depression Treatment.
No one single factor can be pinpointed as the cause of depression. Female
hormone imbalance can cause mental depression. Thyroid conditions can cause
mental depression. Grief and loss can cause mental depression. Medication,
chronic pain, genetics, gender and possibly viral infections can cause
depression.
Some studies indicates that environmental factors like poverty or abuse,
contribute to the cause of depression. Living with a depressed family member or

An external event like chronic illness, financial problems, divorce or the
death of a loved one often can cause depression.
Living with chronic pain or life-threatening illness can also cause mental
depression. Genetics can also be the cause of depression. People with a parent
who became severely depressed are eight times more likely to become depressed.
The cause of depression varies greatly from one person to the next, but
people with depression usually have one thing in common: low levels of the
serotonin.
Although over100 neurochemicals are found in the human brain, four
neurotransmitters - norepinephrine, serotonin, dopamine, and acetycholine -
receive the bulk of research the focus. Of these four high-profile
neurotransmitters, serotonin has the most widespread effect on the brain.
Serotonin, also called 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), is the brain's `happy
chemical.’
Although mental depression is associated with low levels of the serotonin,
scientists are still not sure whether low levels of serotonin and cause
depression or whether depression causes low levels of serotonin.
One thing they do know is that depression can often be lifted by raising
serotonin levels.
Serotonin is often referred to as the body's natural mood-altering drug and
changes in serotonin levels can quickly alter mood. If serotonin levels drop to
low levels, depression is almost sure to follow. Some antidepressant medications
work specifically to affect the action of serotonin. Deprex, a natural

It is important to note that certain drugs may cause depression. Hormone
