Perimenopause - Menopause Exercise Tip, January 15, 2006.

Almost Like Not Exercising Exercises.

I can't think of a single person who wouldn't benefit from more exercise. We all know, or should know, that being physically active and eating well are vital to staying healthy. Staying active is also key to looking and feeling your best.

Are you moving enough to feel your best? Did you know that even moderate physical activity - simply moving your body enough to get your heart pumping - brings great health benefits including more energy?

Now, here's the good news - most activity counts and fitting it in is easier than you think. You don't have to do all your exercise at once. Fit in 5 minutes here and 10 minutes there for a daily total of 30-60 minutes. All those minutes add up, and it's so good for you!

Here are some tips for easy exercise:

  • Take several 5 to 10 minutes walks each day.

  • Walk instead of drive to visit your friend in the neighborhood.

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator to visit a co-worker.

  • Take the stairs every chance you can get.

  • Park your car as far from the store as possible. You'll help your health as well as the environment instead of cruising the parking lot looking for the nearest parking spot.

Daily exercise includes all movements, from low-intensity walks to gardening to more intense deliberate workouts, such as sweating through an aerobics class. Moving longer and harder will help you get in better shape, but simply adding movement is the key. Pick activities you enjoy.

Here are some great activity suggestions:

  • Take up gardening or work on your lawn.

  • Play catch with your child.

  • Get a puppy and give it a brisk walk daily.

  • Take dancing lessons.

Make every day count. Pick an activity you enjoy and enlist a friend or family member to join you. Do your activity fast enough to get your heart pumping without leaving you out of breath or exhausted. You should be able to talk. If you can sing, that's a signal you need to pick up the pace a bit.

Just making those small changes in your schedule to allow short mini-exercise breaks will brighten your outlook, make you healthier, and trim you down even if there is no weight loss, although there usually is weight loss also. It's a win-win situation no matter how you look at it.

NEW!! NEW!!! BIG DRUG COMPANIES USING THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION IN AN ATTEMPT TO DESTROY COMPETITION FROM NATURAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPIES!!!

Do you remember our newsletter last year detailing how Wyeth Pharmaceuticals was attempting to stop compounding pharmacists from prescribing natural progesterone (diosgenin) after their profits fell by more than 57%  from $2.07 billion in 2003 to $800 million in 2004 (after the WHI study had to be stopped)?

Well, now they have gone after centers like ours making complaints to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).  The FTC's position backed by the big pharmaceutical companies is that Dr. John Lee, M.D.'s studies were not scientific and did not rise to the standard of FDA and National Institutes of Health studies, and that our claims about natural progesterone are false, unfair, deceptive, misleading advertising in violation of the law..

(Please read what Dr. Helen Pensanti M.D. has to say about this. Read on to how the study was conducted.)

This is an attempt to force women into taking unsafe proven cancer causing synthetic hormones using your tax dollar to harass natural hormone suppliers. We here at the Women's Menopause Health Center refuse to take away your choice of a healthy alternative to Premarin, Prempro and the other dangerous drugs. We are taking a stand against this heavy handed attempt to destroy competition. We are going to fight for your choice of a healthy way to get through menopause comfortably and safely.

(Ed. note: This was from our newsletter last year. The continued harassment by the FTC has caused us to discontinue our wonderful product. DO NOT be forced into taking something that can kill you. You may purchase safe progesterone cream at your local health food store, or find it a lot less expensively on line at places like ebay and yahoo stores. Do not let these heavy handed tactics destroy your health!)
