Histidine (L-Histidine) Histidine.

L-Histidine as it is found in its natural form, is an essential amino acid for children, and conditionally so for adults. It is thought to be effective in increasing and improving female libido (female sexual arousal) and is believed necessary for orgasm in women (as per preliminary research findings), yet paradoxically, depresses sexual stimulation in males. It is the precursor of the ubiquitous neurohormone and neurotransmitter histamine which is involved in smooth muscle function and the dilation or expansion of blood vessels; Histamine (not Histidine) is also stored in mast cells, which upon Immune System alert, are ruptured, emptying their contents into the blood stream. Histidine is also involved in the maintenance of myelin sheaths which insulate the nerves, much like a rubber coated extension cord keeps you from being electrically shocked.Histidine is required for normal auditory function and stimulates the production of red and white blood cells. It is also helpful in moderation to nutritionally aid in the removal of toxic metals from the body, and is thought particularly beneficial as a nutrient for arthritics, having a mild soothing effect because of a histidine-copper-threonine complex that exists naturally in the blood. Quite interestingly, Arthritic individuals generally have abnormally low blood histamine and low serum histidine, as well as low levels of histamine within their synovial fluid - the transparent, viscid, lubricating fluid secreted by joint membranes.
