The recently-released results of the Woman's Healthy Lifestyle Study
shows a strong relationship between healthy eating, an exercise
program and good heart health. This study shows that a healthy

The study consisted of 353 women between the ages of 44 and 50 years.
Participants in this study were divided into two groups, a lifestyle
intervention “diet and exercise” group and an assessment-only
"control" group. Over a four-year period ultrasounds were used to
measure the thickness of their carotid artery walls.
The menopausal women taking part in the diet and exercise trial showed
slowing of atherosclerosis -- plaque build-up in the arteries -- while
the women in the "assessment only" control group exhibited an
accelerated thickening of the arteries.
Additionally, the women in the diet and exercise group did not
experience a rise in their LDL cholesterol levels over the four year

menopause represents a unique opportunity for women to work at
reducing their risks of heart disease and.
