Do you remember our newsletter last year detailing how Wyeth Pharmaceuticals was attempting to stop compounding pharmacists from prescribing natural progesterone (diosgenin) after their profits fell by more than 57%  from $2.07 billion in 2003 to $800 million in 2004 (after the WHI study had to be stopped)?

Well, now they have gone after centers like ours making complaints to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).  The FTC's position backed by the big pharmaceutical companies is that Dr. John Lee, M.D.'s studies were not scientific and did not rise to the standard of FDA and National Institutes of Health studies, and that our claims about natural progesterone are false, unfair, deceptive, misleading advertising in violation of the law..

 (Please read what Dr. Helen Pensanti M.D. has to say about this. Read on to how the study was conducted.)

This is an attempt to force women into taking unsafe proven cancer causing synthetic hormones using your tax dollar to harass natural hormone suppliers. We here at the Women's Menopause Health Center refuse to take away your choice of a healthy alternative to Premarin, Prempro and the other dangerous drugs. We are taking a stand against this heavy handed attempt to destroy competition. We are going to fight for your choice of a healthy way to get through menopause comfortably and safely.

(Ed. note: This was from our newsletter last year. The continued harassment by the FTC has caused us to discontinue our wonderful product.  Do not be forced into taking something that can kill you. You may purchase safe progesterone cream at your local health food store, or find it a lot less expensively on line at places like ebay and yahoo stores. Do not let these heavy handed tactics destroy your health!)

The body’s metabolism naturally begins to slow down with age. Perimenopause weight loss attempts - and stopping additional weight gain during perimenopause and menopause - are near impossible with a sluggish metabolism that has slowed to a crawl. Women in perimenopause must incorporate ways to boost the metabolism while making perimenopause diet and lifestyle changes if they want to loss perimenopause weight gain.

Women typically gain weight during the perimenopause and menopause years because of;

  •  Decreased activity compared to younger days.
  •  A sluggish metabolism due to decreased physical activity.
  •  Eating too much food or eating too many processed foods.
  •  A poor diet history of pasta, breads, processed and pre-packaged foods, fast foods, high-fat meats and sugars.
  • Thyroid dysfunctions, which can occur due to hormone imbalance and estrogen dominance.
  • To prevent perimenopause weight gain or loss perimenopause weight gain, women must;
  •  Exercise more to build muscle mass, boost the metabolism and burn calories.
  •  Eat less food than the body burns.
  •  Develop a healthy perimenopause treatment regime free of synthetic chemicals that also includes a high-quality progesterone cream.
  •  Know that they are not a victim to perimenopause weight gain.

Physical activity is necessary to effectively maintain a constant body weight with increasing age. Increasing exercise is the best way to boost the metabolism, loss perimenopause weight gain and produce a feeling of physical and emotional well being for women in perimenopause.

Muscle burns more calories than fat and strong muscles burn more calories than weak muscles. Weight bearing exercise like walking and jogging are two excellent exercise choices that cost little more than a good pair of shoes and comfortable clothing. Women trying to loss perimenopause weight gain should exercise at least 30 minutes, four to five times weekly.

A perimenopause diet regime is also especially important at this time in a woman’s life, though women in perimenopause should avoid starvation diets in an attempt to control perimenopause weight gain. When caloric intake drops below about 1800 calories, the body believes it is starving, kicks into survival mode and begins conserving fat – the exact opposite goal of a perimenopause diet.

Instead, a perimenopause diet that focuses on food modifications works best. Trade sugar and caffeinated drinks for water. Instead of a processed lunch meat sandwich, opt for tuna with a touch of brown mustard and low-fat salad dressing. Forget pastas and potatoes and choose steamed vegetables instead. Choose a salmon fillet over a hamburger, chicken breast over pork. The foods you choose for your perimenopause diet are the foods you will choose for life.

The perimenopause diet should include an abundance of fresh vegetables, more lean proteins like fish and more water. Carbohydrates like pastas, potatoes, sugars, breads and sweets have almost no value in a perimenopause diet. Caffeine, and its ugly cellulite side affect, has no value in the perimenopause diet.

Medications like hormone replacement therapy used to reduce menopause symptoms can also produce weight gain. A perimenopause treatment regime of naturally occurring phytoestrogens, nutritional supplements, specific homeopathic and herb combinations - like that found in Vaxa’s Preserve and the Women’s Strategy Pack - is an excellent choice. A high-quality progesterone cream like "Preserve" is also an important component of a perimenopause weight loss regime.

Women in perimenopause should also not rule out thyroid dysfunctions when trying to loss perimenopause weight gain. Hormone imbalances and estrogen dominance can interfere with thyroid functioning, which is why so many women begin to experience thyroid problems and subsequent weight gain during their perimenopause years. A high-quality progesterone cream like "Preserve" encourages hormonal balance that can help with perimenopause weight gain, along with many other perimenopause symptoms.

Women do not need to accept or tolerate perimenopause weight gain as the natural course of aging. But to loss perimenopause weight gain involves exercise, diet, lifestyle and attitude changes. Some choices, like using a high-quality progesterone cream to eliminate estrogen dominance and using natural treatments for perimenopause, are relatively easy. Breaking a sweat for 30 minutes four to five times weekly and passing on the foods that the youthful body was more forgiving of might prove more difficult. Yet, the rewards of a healthy and more slender body far outweigh the effort.
