Return to Eden Diosgenin (nicknamed Progesterone) Cream.
Do you remember our newsletter
last year detailing how Wyeth Pharmaceuticals was attempting to stop
compounding pharmacists from prescribing natural progesterone (diosgenin)
after their profits fell by more than 57% from $2.07 billion in 2003 to
$800 million in 2004 (after the WHI study had to be stopped)?
Well, now they have gone after
centers like ours making complaints to the Federal Trade Commission
(FTC). The FTC's position backed by the big pharmaceutical companies is
that Dr. John Lee, M.D.'s studies were not scientific and did not rise to
the standard of FDA and National Institutes of Health studies, and that
our claims about natural progesterone are false, unfair, deceptive,
misleading advertising in violation of the law..
(Please read
what Dr. Helen Pensanti M.D. has to say about this. Read on to how the study
was conducted.)
This is an attempt to force women into taking
unsafe proven cancer causing synthetic hormones using
your tax dollar to harass natural hormone suppliers. We here at the Women's
Menopause Health Center refuse to take away your choice of a healthy
alternative to Premarin, Prempro and the other dangerous drugs. We are
taking a stand against this heavy handed attempt to destroy competition. We
are going to fight for your choice of a healthy way to get through menopause
comfortably and safely.
(Ed. note: This was from our newsletter last year. The
continued harassment by the FTC has caused us to discontinue our wonderful
product. Do not be forced
into taking something that can kill you. You may purchase safe
progesterone cream at your local health food store, or find it a lot less
expensively on line at places like ebay and yahoo stores.
Do not let these heavy handed tactics destroy your health!)

Osteoporosis is defined as a
progressive disease of excessive bone loss and decreased bone density
that is the most common metabolic bone disorder in the United States. It
causes an increased risk of bone fractures that can be painful,
debilitating and life threatening. Two of the best methods to accurately
determine degree of bone loss in osteoporosis are the serial dual photon
absorptiometry (DPA) and the dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).
These tests measure bone density very precisely and are relatively low
in cost and emit minimal radiation. It is suggested that if possible you
have one of these tests done before you begin applying natural
progesterone cream to establish a base line from which to measure
changes in bone density. Subsequent tests can be performed at six months
or one-year intervals so you and your physician can monitor bone growth;
however, testing is not mandatory to begin using the cream.
WHERE TO APPLY:
Preserve natural progesterone cream
is best absorbed on thin skin. Natural progesterone cream absorbs into
the skin to the fatty layer then it is transferred into the bloodstream.
Apply Preserve natural USP progesterone cream to the neck, hands,
breasts, chest, inner arms, inner legs, abdomen and feet until absorbed.
Remember to rotate sites when applying natural progesterone cream. If
you apply progesterone cream to your chest in the morning, for instance,
apply progesterone cream to your feet in the evening. Before applying
natural progesterone cream to your face, perform a patch test by
applying a small amount of progesterone cream to a small area on the
side of your face to check for sensitivity reactions. Your face is the
most sensitive skin area on your body.
WHEN TO APPLY AND HOW MUCH TO
APPLY:
-
For mild osteoporosis or for
prevention of osteoporosis, use up to one teaspoon Preserve natural
progesterone cream applied twice per day for three weeks per month.
-
If you have severe osteoporosis or
have experienced fractures, use up to one teaspoon Preserve natural
progesterone cream applied twice per day for three weeks per month.
-
It is important to take a week off
from natural progesterone cream per month to avoid dulling of your
receptor sites. Your results should be better when using the natural
progesterone cream three weeks on and one week off.

HOW TO TAPER OFF SYNTHETIC ESTROGEN:
-
Never go cold-turkey off your
estrogen. Always taper off according to the recommended It is
recommended that you taper off your estrogen over a 3 to 6 month
period. If you are on estrogen and you begin to use Preserve natural
progesterone cream, you should cut your dose in half the first month,
cut it again the second month then again the third month. Example: If
you take one pill (estrogen) every day, the first month you should
take one pill every other day. The second month, take one pill every
third day. The third month, take one pill every fourth day.
-
You may choose to taper of your
estrogen over six months. If so, take one pill every other day for two
months, one pill every third day for two months and one pill every
fourth day for two months. (If using a patch, substitute it above.)
-
If taking a synthetic progestin (Provera,
etc.), discontinue it when you start using Preserve natural
progesterone cream. Provera is the synthetic form of natural
progesterone and is taken up by the same receptor sites. The synthetic
progesterone will overpower the natural progesterone.
-
If you are on a combination pill of
estrogen and progestin (PremPro; PremPhase etc.), you need to get a
prescription for an estrogen only pill to use during your tapering
process.
-
When you have tapered off your
estrogen over a three-month period, you may choose to test your
hormone levels through a saliva test.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
-
Natural progesterone cream is not
suggested for birth control. Progesterone cream can suppress ovulation
if used prior to ovulation time. Progesterone cream can enhance
conception if used starting on the first day of ovulation. If you are
using the birth control pill, it is recommended that you use natural
progesterone cream seven days prior to your period. You may get some
relief of your PMS but women not on the pill obtain the best results.
-
Although there have been no reports
of significant side effects or health problems associated with natural
progesterone cream, we encourage you to find a trusted health care
provider to work with you as you use natural progesterone cream.
There have been reports of incidental spotting, which may be
associated with progesterone cream use. This is usually temporary. A
physician should always
check any persistent spotting or breakthrough bleeding. Because some
PMS and Menopausal symptoms may indicate other conditions, please be
sure to consult a health care provider if you ever experience
headaches or progressive symptoms.
Natural progesterone cream can potentially INCREASE THYROID ACTIVITY.
-
If you are taking thyroid
supplements, you should consult your health care provider and consider
lowering the amount of thyroid supplementation you use.
-
DOSAGE MAY VARY PER INDIVIDUAL. A

ovaries during the luteal phase of her cycle. During pregnancy, the
production of progesterone is taken over by the placenta. A
woman in her third trimester of pregnancy produces up to 400 mg of
progesterone per day.
-
For vaginal dryness, you may apply
part of your dosage of progesterone cream intra-vaginally.
-
For migraines, headaches or night
sweats, you may use a dab of progesterone cream every 15 minutes for
an hour.
