We women have come to think of these symptoms as pre menopause and
menopause, but they could be more. And, they could be easily treatable
with a little kick to your thyroid.
Thyroid problems are quite common during the pre menopausal and
postmenopausal years. The physical foundation of the menopause
experience rests on the health of our endocrine system - or hormone
producing organs like the thyroid. It is a fact that 26 percent of
pre menopausal women suffer from hypothyroidism (Annals of
Epidemiology, M.S. Massoudi, 1995).
Dr. John R. Lee says there appears to be a cause-and-effect
relationship between hypothyroidism where there are inadequate levels
of the thyroid hormone, and estrogen dominance. When estrogen is not
properly counterbalanced with progesterone, it can block the action of
thyroid hormone, so even when the thyroid is producing normal hormone
levels, the hormone is rendered ineffective and the symptoms of
hypothyroidism appear. However, laboratory tests may show normal
thyroid hormone levels in a woman's system, because the thyroid gland
isn't actually malfunctioning.
And, surprise of all surprises, this problem is compounded when
synthetic estrogen is prescribed during perimenopause and menopause
leading to an even greater estrogen imbalance. In this instance, a
prescription for a thyroid supplement fails to correct the underlying
problem which is the estrogen dominance.
A good progesterone cream like those available online, and a thyroid booster, like Vaxa's Thyroid Supplement, does alleviate hypothyroidism by balancing
estrogen with progesterone and feeding the thyroid naturally. Thinking
becomes clearer, and although the weight may not fall off overnight,
one will see definite progress in that area.
